Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its new mainstream lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, dubbed the "Alienware Aurora". The first 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, not to be confused with the desktop model, is the more budget-friendly option. It comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the higher end, the Alienware Aurora 16X boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. Both models are set to start shipping in mid-June. Additionally, there's an option to upgrade to RTX 5060 graphics, though these are currently on preorder with no confirmed shipping date due to the RTX 5060 not yet being released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops break away from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These laptops adopt a sleek, minimalist design with a thin profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard illumination reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their unassuming exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are packed with powerful gaming components and a robust Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16, being thinner and lighter, benefits from more efficient components like the low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and the RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. Conversely, the Aurora 16X, slightly thicker and heavier, houses a more potent Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with the maximum 115W TGP.
Both models are significantly more affordable than the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000. They also offer better portability, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and 30% thinner than a comparable Area-51 16" laptop. Given the potential upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices as reported by Tom's Hardware, significant price drops in the near future are unlikely.
Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model
For gamers seeking a high-performance mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. The additional $300 investment offers substantial upgrades, making it a worthwhile purchase. The key enhancements include:
- A superior display with a 2560x1600 resolution and 240Hz G-Sync, compared to the Aurora 16's 120Hz.
- A more powerful CPU, the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, versus the Intel Core 9 270H.
- A higher TGP rating for the RTX 5070 GPU at 115W, as opposed to 85W.
- Double the RAM with 64GB instead of 32GB.
- Double the storage capacity at 2TB rather than 1TB.
- Enhanced build quality with a metal top and bottom, while the Aurora 16 has only a metal top.
- An RGB keyboard and Thunderbolt 4.0 connectivity.
