The PS Portal, Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory for the PS5, resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen nestled in the center. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by streaming games from your console at up to 60fps. The controller retains the same features as the DualSense, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface that substitutes for the DualSense's touchpad. The Portal can stream your games even when you're away from home, provided you have access to a very stable, very fast internet connection. However, remember that the PS Portal isn't a standalone device; it's strictly a remote player for the PlayStation 5, requiring a PS5 to operate.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to play games on the PS Portal. Sony has rolled out a feature allowing Portal owners to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. Now, instead of being tied to your PS5, you can access a library of over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. To enjoy this feature, you'll need to subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which at $18 a month, is a more cost-effective option compared to buying a $500 console and additional games.

It's important to note that the PlayStation Portal isn't the only way to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home. You can achieve similar functionality by downloading the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device, including other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, this method is more complicated to set up and lacks some of the DualSense's features.
