The days of paying hundreds over MSRP for Nvidia's new Blackwell GPU are over. Amazon now has the Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 16GB Graphics Card in stock at its original launch price of $999.99 with free shipping. This is the first time I've seen it readily available at this price on Amazon, though you'll need an Amazon Prime membership to claim the deal. You can expect to run any game at 4K resolution with frame rates exceeding 60 fps.

Compared to previous generation cards, the GeForce RTX 5080 is about 5%-10% faster than the RTX 4080 Super, which has been discontinued. As a generational upgrade, the performance gain is modest, but it launches at the same price as the RTX 4080 Super, offering equivalent value. The RTX 5080 faced significant criticism at launch due to limited availability at MSRP, with prices from private sellers often exceeding $1,500. Fortunately, that situation has changed.

In terms of performance, the RTX 5080 is a powerhouse. It ranks among the fastest cards available, only surpassed by the $2,000 RTX 5090 and the discontinued $1,600 RTX 4090. It excels at running the latest, most demanding games in 4K with high settings and ray tracing enabled. The RTX 5080 supports DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation, allowing for higher frame rates in supported games with minimal visual impact. Recent titles with DLSS 4 support include Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (post-update), Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Stellar Blade. Most upcoming AAA games are also expected to include support.

The Asus Prime model features a triple-fan cooling system and a slimmer 2.5-slot design, making it compatible with more PCs, including certain small form factor (SFF) cases with longer dimensions.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE Review by Jacqueline Thomas

"If you already own a high-end graphics card from the last few years, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 isn't a compelling upgrade—its performance lead over the RTX 4080 is minimal, though DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation does enhance visuals in supported games. However, for gamers with older cards seeking a significant performance boost, the RTX 5080 delivers—especially if you appreciate Nvidia's AI features."
