The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, has alerted fans about a deceptive beta test invite scam that's been circulating on the internet. On April 16, the studio took to The Witcher's official X (formerly Twitter) account to address the issue, stating that they've received reports of community members being invited to a nonexistent beta test for The Witcher 4.

In their post, CD Projekt Red emphasized their efforts to combat this fraudulent activity: "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."

They reassured fans that any future beta tests would be announced officially through The Witcher's social media channels and websites.

First Revealed in December 2024

The Witcher 4 was first unveiled to the public during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a captivating trailer that introduced Ciri as the game's protagonist. This announcement sparked significant discussion among fans, given that Geralt had been the central character in the previous three games.

In an interview with VGC following the reveal, The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, addressed the community's mixed reactions to Ciri taking the lead. Weber expressed his understanding of fans' attachment to Geralt but reassured them of the team's dedication to making Ciri's journey compelling. He stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also expressed gratitude for the support of those who welcomed the change. He acknowledged the varied opinions within the fanbase, saying, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."

The developers are aiming to make The Witcher 4 the most ambitious entry in the series yet, with new regions and monsters to explore.
