Securing a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. during its launch period and through 2025 may prove challenging but not impossible, according to Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. Speaking about the console's upcoming June 5 launch, Bowser assured consumers that Nintendo has planned for adequate stock through the holiday season.
Availability Outlook for Switch 2
Bowser revealed Nintendo's production plans during an IGN interview, stating: "President Furukawa announced we'll have 15 million Switch 2 units forecasted for this fiscal year, plus 4.5 million original Switch units. This mirrors what we achieved during the original Switch's first 10 months."
The executive emphasized Nintendo's commitment to maintaining steady supply: "We believe our production and distribution plan will meet U.S. consumer demand. While preorders indicate strong interest, we've structured our supply chain for continuous availability through the holidays."
Preorder Challenges and Pricing Commitment
Initial preorder experiences proved difficult for many customers after going live April 24 at $449.99. Nintendo cautioned that My Nintendo Store preorders might not guarantee launch day delivery due to overwhelming demand.
Regarding potential price fluctuations from tariffs, Bowser stated: "We've committed to our announced price points - $449 for standalone and $499 for the Mario Kart World bundle. Market conditions remain fluid, but we're dedicated to keeping Switch 2 accessible to consumers."
