Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed
A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases the game's updated gameplay and control systems, highlighting improvements and additions for the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC release on January 10th. The title retains its core loop of battling giant mechanical creatures (Abductors), gathering materials, upgrading gear, and completing missions within a bleak, resource-depleted dystopian world.
The remastered version boasts significantly enhanced visuals, a faster-paced combat system, and a revamped crafting experience. Key updates include a resolution boost to 4K (2160p) at 60 FPS for PS5 and PC, and 1080p at 60 FPS for PS4 (Switch version runs at 1080p/30 FPS). Gameplay is more dynamic thanks to increased movement speed and new attack cancellation mechanics.
The crafting system receives a major overhaul, featuring more intuitive interfaces and the ability to freely attach and detach modules. A new module synthesis feature allows players to upgrade modules using resources obtained from rescued citizens. For seasoned players, a challenging new difficulty mode, "Deadly Sinner," has been added. Furthermore, all customization DLC from the original PS Vita release is included from launch.
The trailer opens with the protagonist, a "Sinner" condemned for the crime of being born, navigating this harsh world. Players undertake missions, solo or cooperatively online, ranging from citizen rescue and Abductor extermination to capturing vital control systems. This mission structure, while set in a futuristic environment, echoes the gameplay of the Monster Hunter series, a franchise that notably transitioned away from PlayStation platforms in the past. Freedom Wars, originally a PS Vita exclusive, thus serves as a compelling alternative for PlayStation fans.
