The curtains have fallen on Evil Dead: The Game, an asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, as its publisher, Saber Interactive, has started the process of delisting it from digital marketplaces. Launched in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game received an 8/10 from IGN, praised for its thrilling gameplay despite its rough edges. Our review highlighted, "Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetric multiplayer game of cat and mouse that's compelling and exhilarating, despite being rough around the edges - much like the horror/comedies that inspired it."
Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition a year later, the game struggled to maintain its player base. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and content development was also ceased. Now, three years after its initial launch, Evil Dead: The Game is no longer available for purchase. However, existing owners can still enjoy the game as its servers will remain online.
In a statement on the game’s Steam page, Saber Interactive confirmed the delisting:
We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.
The decision has led to numerous negative reviews on the game’s Steam page, with many players feeling that the game is effectively "dead" now. Despite this, it maintains a 'mixed' overall user review rating on Steam. One positive review from a player with over 380 hours in-game reads, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."
Saber Interactive, the developer behind last year's hit Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to work on several exciting projects. Their upcoming titles include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game, Turok: Origins, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
