EA has confirmed a clearer release window for Battlefield following the announcement of GTA 6's delay. During their Q4 and FY 2025 Earnings Conference Call on May 6, EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced that Battlefield is set to launch in March 2026. He expressed satisfaction with the situation, noting that Battlefield will now arrive two months before GTA 6.

When questioned about how major releases affect other titles' launches, Wilson acknowledged that most companies cannot simply move their game releases forward to avoid competing with GTA 6. However, he was pleased with how things have worked out for EA, as they can now comfortably target their intended release window.

The gaming industry has long been cautious about scheduling releases around major titles like GTA 6, especially after its first trailer was revealed. With the delay, many developers are adjusting their plans. EA, however, feels confident in their timing for Battlefield.

Wilson emphasized that they've been aiming for a release window that suits Battlefield best. "But we wouldn’t launch into a window that we thought truncated the value that we’ve invested into the franchise, or the value that we think our players will derive from it once they jump in and start playing," he explained. In contrast, Death Stranding 2 (DS2) Director Hideo Kojima has a different approach. He acknowledged the industry's tendency to avoid GTA 6's release window but confirmed that DS2's launch date was set long before GTA 6's delay. In a Koji Pro radio broadcast, Kojima mentioned hearing rumors that GTA 6 would release in November, prompting other companies to adjust their schedules. He likened this to the film industry, where major releases like a new Mission Impossible movie can shift the release dates of other films.

Despite the industry's movements, Kojima remains committed to DS2's original timeline, aiming for a September release. He noted that DS2 is now 95% complete, indicating that its launch is imminent.

Other Developers Steer Clear, Devolver Digital Says Bring It On

For many developers, the looming release of GTA 6 is a significant consideration in planning their own game launches. The Game Business Show reported in March that numerous game executives are prepared to adjust their release dates to avoid clashing with GTA 6. An anonymous executive stated, "We will nudge our releases back or forward three weeks to avoid it. Of course, the problem is everyone is going to do the same. So three to four weeks before or after GTA 6, you’re going to get a load of games dropping content in what they believe will be the safe zone."

On the flip side, Cult of the Lamb publisher Devolver Digital has boldly announced their intention to release a game on the same day as GTA 6. The specific title remains undisclosed, but Devolver Digital's portfolio includes potential candidates like Cult of the Lamb, Inscription, Hotline Miami, or a new IP altogether.
