Guardians Star Pom Klementieff Eyed for DC Universe

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for casting his friends in his films. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise confirms discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.

The DC Universe aims to surpass the success of the previous DC Extended Universe, which faced challenges due to studio interference and inconsistent vision. While the DCEU had box office successes, several films underperformed, and the overall narrative coherence was questioned. Warner Bros. hopes Gunn, renowned for the Guardians of the Galaxy films, can steer the DCU to greater success, potentially bringing familiar faces along.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, revealed at San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con that she's discussed a specific DCU role with Gunn. While she remained tight-lipped about the character, she confirmed Gunn has a particular role in mind for her.

I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. \[...\] Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.

Klementieff also shared her positive experience working with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding with the team's dissolution, she remains open to reprising her role as Mantis depending on the project.

I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project.

Gunn himself confirmed Klementieff's comments on Threads, dispelling rumors of her casting in the upcoming Superman film. He clarified that the discussions with Klementieff concern a different DC character entirely. Neither Gunn nor Klementieff has revealed details about this mystery role.

Gunn's tendency to cast familiar faces, including his brother and wife, has drawn criticism. However, many filmmakers collaborate with the same actors, and the practice isn't inherently problematic. Ultimately, Klementieff's suitability for the role will determine whether the casting choice is successful.

Guardians of the Galaxy films are streaming on Disney+.
