IGN has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong: the game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne from September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been one of the most anticipated games globally, consistently topping the Steam wishlist charts. While the exact release date remains shrouded in mystery beyond a broad 2025 window, this museum exhibition provides a concrete opportunity for fans to experience the game firsthand.

Silksong will be featured in the Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI, which will not only allow attendees to play the game but also explore its intricate design and artistic direction. The exhibition will showcase various elements of the game, including detailed displays of the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind its challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, highlighting one of the many design elements that will be on display. This image was provided to IGN with permission.

The playable demo at ACMI suggests that Silksong's release might be imminent, possibly even before September 18. Speculation points towards a potential August launch, adding to the excitement. Recent developments have indeed ramped up anticipation, with Silksong briefly featured at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, reaffirming the 2025 release window and offering a glimpse of new gameplay.

Initially confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, with plans to extend to Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been at the center of various teases over the years. Team Cherry began 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April. As the excitement builds, fans worldwide eagerly await further updates on this highly anticipated indie title.
