Nintendo, Retro Studios, and Piggyback are joining forces to release a stunning Metroid Prime art book in Summer 2025. This exciting collaboration offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the development of the acclaimed Metroid Prime series.
A Visual Retrospective of Metroid Prime 1-3
Celebrating 20 Years of Metroid Prime
Nintendo and Piggyback, a renowned guidebook publisher, have partnered to create Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective. Retro Studios, the masterminds behind the Metroid Prime series, have contributed extensively, sharing insights from two decades of game development.
This art book boasts a collection of "drawings, sketches, and assorted illustrations from the Metroid Prime Series," according to Piggyback. But it’s more than just a visual feast; it provides invaluable context and perspective on the creation of Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Metroid Prime Remastered.
Beyond the high-quality artwork and developer sketches, the book includes:
- A foreword by Kensuke Tanabe, producer of Metroid Prime.
- Introductions to each game penned by Retro Studios.
- Producer anecdotes, commentaries, and insights into the artwork.
- Premium, stitch-bound art paper with a cloth hardcover featuring a metallic foil Samus etching.
- Available in a single (hardcover) edition.
With 212 pages of captivating content, readers will gain unparalleled insight into the development of these four iconic games and the creative inspirations behind them. The art book is priced at £39.99 / €44.99 / A$74.95. While not yet available for purchase, keep an eye on Piggyback's website for updates.
Piggyback's Track Record with Nintendo
This isn't Piggyback's first collaboration with Nintendo. The company previously produced official guides for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, helping players conquer Hyrule's vast landscapes, collect every item, and complete all quests.
These comprehensive guides provided essential information, from Korok seed locations to weapon and armor details. The Breath of the Wild guide even included complete coverage of its DLC expansions, The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad.
While not an official guide, Piggyback's proven ability to create visually stunning artwork, showcased in their BOTW and TOTK guides, promises a similarly impressive experience in the upcoming Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective art book.
