DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Gunn shared his enthusiasm on Twitter, describing the Season 2 premiere as “one of my favorite things ever.” A brief snippet of new footage teases John Cena back in action, including a moment where he smirks at the camera amidst a blazing fire, with someone declaring, “Peacemaker is a superhero now.”
Gunn's tweet reads:
Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21. pic.twitter.com/df3yOcCsdn

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the big screen launch of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third installment in the new DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film this summer.
The new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to distance itself from the critically panned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the DCU, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the new DCU.
Gunn has mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain unclear. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly influencing Peacemaker's storyline.
