No PvE Mode Planned for Marvel Rivals, Developer Confirms

As Marvel Rivals continues to gain traction among fans, exciting rumors about potential new features have been circulating. One such rumor involved the addition of a PvE boss fight, sparking hopes for a dedicated PvE mode. However, NetEase has recently clarified that there are currently no plans for such a mode, though they haven't completely ruled it out.

At the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the opportunity to discuss this with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. When asked about any plans for a PvE mode, Wu stated, "For now, we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we found that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience."

Following Wu's comments, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in, asking if a PvE mode would be something I'd be interested in, to which I responded affirmatively. Wu elaborated, "Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."

While there are no concrete plans for a PvE mode at the moment, Wu's comments suggest that NetEase is exploring the idea of a "lighter" game mode, possibly something like a one-off event. However, NetEase remains tight-lipped on further details.

Marvel Rivals is actively being updated, with new characters being introduced every month and a half. The Human Torch and The Thing are the latest heroes set to join the roster on February 21. We also had the chance to discuss with Wu and Koo the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release of Marvel Rivals, which you can read more about here. Additionally, we confronted them about whether they were trolling dataminers with fake hero "leaks" in the game's code.
