Tim Burton's Batman Films to Screen in Remastered Form in Dolby Cinemas for One-Night-Only

Tim Burton’s Batman movies remain fan favorites among all the various depictions of the Caped Crusader — and now you can relive these cinematic classics during a one-night-only screening at Dolby Cinema venues across the country.

On August 25, audiences will have the chance to watch remastered versions of 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns exclusively at 160 Dolby Cinemas nationwide. Michael Keaton stars as the titular hero in these iconic films, joined by a rotating ensemble of legendary actors including Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

“I hadn’t watched these movies since I directed them, but seeing them again with this level of clarity, beauty, color, and sound felt incredibly fresh and exciting,” Burton shared regarding the special screening in a statement to Variety. “Dolby Atmos and Vision breathed new life into everything.”

Interestingly enough, Batman Returns holds its own place in Dolby history. It was actually the first film ever presented using Dolby Digital when it premiered. This format laid the groundwork for what we now know as surround sound — an innovation that revolutionized not only theatrical viewing but also home entertainment throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

“Batman and Batman Returns remain landmark films in superhero history,” said Michelle Maddalena, VP of global content and industry relations at Dolby, in a statement. “Presenting these movies with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos pays tribute to Tim Burton’s bold creativity while highlighting how much audio and visual technology have advanced.”

It is a particularly busy era for Batman fans. The most recent adaptation was 2022’s The Batman, featuring Robert Pattinson in the lead role. This film belongs to director Matt Reeves’ standalone DC universe, known as the 'Batman Epic Crime Saga,' with The Batman 2 scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. Meanwhile, James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe is developing its own Batman project titled The Brave and the Bold.
