According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to be released this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the project was axed this week due to concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered," as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter.
This decision comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, prompted by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus towards fewer but larger franchises. The original game has achieved impressive sales, surpassing 30 million copies sold.
