Hexanaut.io or hexanaut is an IO game where the goal is to claim as much territory as you can. Avoid cutting your own path and watch out for other players who might slice through yours. The map features totems that can be captured for powerful bonuses. How much land can you claim? Test your strategy in this territory-taking challenge.

HEXANAUT GAME INSTRUCTIONS

Use your mouse to navigate the map. Leave your territory to trace a line and begin claiming new ground. When you loop back to your existing area, the enclosed tiles become yours.

But stay alert—outside your territory, you’re vulnerable. If another player catches up to your trail, they’ll cut you off and you’ll lose everything.

Aim to capture 20% of the map to earn the title of Hexanaut. If you maintain over 20% territory for two full minutes after becoming a Hexanaut, you win!

Be warned: if you’re eliminated while another player is a Hexanaut, you won’t be able to rejoin the match.

CAPTURE TOTEMS

There are five unique totems scattered across the map in Hexanaut.io. Grab them whenever it’s safe—you’ll gain powerful advantages that help you dominate the battlefield and claim the Hexanaut title.

SPREADING TOTEM

The Spreading Totem is the only one that directly adds hexes to your territory. Once captured, it fires lasers that claim adjacent tiles one by one. This is especially valuable early on, when land is hard to secure.

SPEED TOTEM

The Speed Totem boosts your movement by 5%. Though it seems minor, stacking two or three of them makes a huge difference. Prioritize collecting these—they’ll give you a serious edge.

TELEPORTING GATE

These portals offer instant travel between distant points. Perfect for covering large areas without crossing your whole domain. They’re also great for surprising opponents—players often attack the edges of your territory while you’re far away. Teleporting lets you strike back before they expect it.

SLOWING TOTEM

The Slowing Totem creates a zone where all other players move extremely slowly. Like a web, only you can move freely inside. Use this advantage to eliminate rivals who dare enter. But avoid enemy slowing totems—there’s no point challenging someone with such a strong edge.

SPY DISH

The Spy Dish reveals the exact locations of all other players’ territories. At first glance, it seems minor, but it becomes vital once you control large areas. Many players will try to steal your hexes, and the spy dish shows exactly where your borders are under threat so you can defend them.

IS HEXANAUT A MULTIPLAYER GAME?

Yes and no. Hexanaut is classified as an IO game, blending real players with AI bots on the same server. With massive lobbies, the game uses bots to mimic human behavior—ensuring fast matchmaking without forcing you to wait for dozens of players to join.
