Amazon has officially approved a new Stargate television series, set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video.
In an official press release today, Amazon characterized the upcoming program as a "new original series" rather than a direct sequel to previous installments, aiming to deliver "a bold new chapter" for this long-dormant sci-fi franchise.
While casting and launch dates are currently under wraps, creator Martin Gero reassured dedicated fans in an announcement video that the project will definitely "not be a reboot."

Gero brings extensive experience from the franchise, having previously worked as a story editor on Stargate: Atlantis and contributed to both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Universe. He will take on the roles of showrunner and executive producer for this new installment. Joining him in executive producing duties are Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures (known for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), Dean Devlin (Stargate, Independence Day), and Roland Emmerich (Stargate, Moonfall).
Veteran fans will also spot Brad Wright, co-creator of Stargate SG-1, and executive producer Joe Mallozzi in the announcement video. Both are serving as consulting producers on the new series. "We're back, it's happening, it's going to be incredible," Gero teased.

"For those who've kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one's for you. And for those new to our world — I promise you're in for something extraordinary."The Stargate saga began with Roland Emmerich's 1994 sci-fi film of the same title, which introduced a core cast that was later expanded upon by the hit television spin-off SG-1. Over ten seasons and several TV movies, SG-1 spawned its own sister series, Atlantis, followed eventually by Stargate Universe, a darker and more distinct take on the franchise.
Throughout the years, novels, video games, and web series have further enriched the universe, though Stargate has recently experienced a hiatus—until now.
