Baldur’s Gate 3 concludes its remarkable journey with the highly anticipated final patch. Released on April 15, 2025, Patch 8 represents Larian Studios' last substantial update for BG3. This milestone triggered a noticeable player resurgence, pushing the game just beyond Steam’s top 10 most-played titles – a significant leap from its previous 60,000 concurrent players to over 169,000 at press time.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke addressed the unexpected player spike on Twitter/X (April 22), attributing part of this success to robust mod support that now allows the team to shift focus toward their upcoming project. Previous reports confirm Larian’s departure from the Dungeons & Dragons universe to pursue original IPs.

With Larian stepping away, Wizards of the Coast (Hasbro) will steward the Baldur’s Gate franchise independently and is reportedly evaluating potential studios for Baldur’s Gate 4 development.
