Black Myth: Wukong Launches for Xbox August 20

Black Myth: Wukong, the action RPG based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, is finally arriving on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025, exactly one year after its initial release on PS5 and PC.

Xbox announced the news on Twitter/X, stating, "You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong launches August 20. Pre-orders start June 18!"

Black Myth: Wukong has been a massive success, with over 25 million copies sold as of January 31, 2025. However, its absence from Xbox Series X/S has been particularly noticeable, as the game was never officially marketed as an exclusive.

Some sources attributed the delay to a Sony exclusivity agreement rather than technical limitations, but Fen Ji, the head of developer Game Science, reportedly pointed to the Xbox Series S as the core issue.

“The only platform missing is Xbox,” he remarked, according to a machine translation, “which feels a bit odd, but that 10GB of shared memory—without years of optimization experience—is genuinely challenging to work with.”

Now, it seems these hurdles have been cleared, and Xbox players will soon be able to add the title to their collections.
