In the main quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls" in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, you'll find yourself at Trosky Castle, where you must use alchemy to save someone by brewing Fever Tonic. Here’s a detailed guide on how to locate the recipe and brew this essential potion.

The recipe for Fever Tonic can be found in the Surgeon’s Workshop at Trosky Castle. You have two options to gain access to this area:
- Sneaking In: You can attempt to sneak into the workshop to find the recipe directly.
- Convincing the Chamberlain: Alternatively, you can engage with the chamberlain in the noble's kitchen. If you notice him hunched over in pain, discuss his health and use your skills to convince him that you can help by brewing a digestive potion. Successfully passing these skill checks will grant you access to the Surgeon’s Workshop.
If you opt not to sneak and prefer the diplomatic approach, you'll need to complete the horse delivery objectives in "For Whom the Bell Tolls." After that, talk to Cook Fanka at the forge and offer to help with her locked chest. She will lead you to the noble’s kitchen. Inside, you can initiate a conversation with the chamberlain about his health, leading to the workshop access.
If your skill checks fail, you'll have to resort to stealing food from the kitchen. Exit the kitchen and cross the courtyard to another set of stairs leading to a door on your right. This door opens to a kitchen where a guard is stationed. Offer him the stolen food, and he'll leave, allowing you to sneak upstairs to the Surgeon’s Workshop. Here, you can find the physician's journal on a bookshelf, which contains the recipe for Fever Tonic.
How to Brew Fever Tonic

With the herbs already set up at the surgeon’s station, you can follow these steps to brew the Fever Tonic:
- Pour wine into the cauldron.
- Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
- Lower the cauldron and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
- Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves with the mortar and pestle.
- Add the ground Elderberry Leaves.
- Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
- Grab a phial from the bottom left shelf of the station, under the wine.
- Distill the tonic using the Still.
Don't worry if you don’t succeed on your first attempt; there are plenty of herbs available, and you can find more in the chest within the room. Given your previous experience with potion-making, crafting this tonic should be manageable.
Once you have the Fever Tonic, you need to deliver it to Thomas. If you've built trust with the chamberlain by also making him a digestive potion, return to him with both potions. If not, you can use the noble’s kitchen to sneak up to the chapel where you'll find Thomas and his sister, Adele. Speak with Adele to complete the quest.
