Cyberpunk 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port Updates
Featuring Multiple Cities
Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, codenamed Project Orion, promises to expand the universe with a fresh setting alongside the beloved Night City. At Digital Dragons 2025 on May 20, Mike Pondsmith, the founder of R. Talsorian Games and the original game designer, shared insights into the sequel's development.
Although Pondsmith's involvement is less direct than with Cyberpunk 2077, he remains engaged, regularly reviewing scripts and visiting development departments. "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’" he shared.
He also revealed the new city's concept, stating, "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’."
Additionally, CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has been actively recruiting for Cyberpunk 2, with a recent job listing for a Lead Encounter Designer. This role involves crafting memorable gameplay encounters and collaborating with the systems design team to develop what's described as "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date."
While details on Project Orion remain scarce, the involvement of Pondsmith and CDPR's ongoing recruitment efforts suggest that Cyberpunk 2 will build upon the rich world-building and intricate storytelling of its predecessor.
New Footage for Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port
In other news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the optimization efforts for Cyberpunk 2077 on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The studio uploaded about 37 minutes of B-roll footage on their website, demonstrating the game's performance on Nintendo's next-generation handheld console.
Reports from Nintendo Switch 2 showcase events in New York and Paris highlighted some performance issues, with Business Insider noting, "Such an intensive game playing on the Switch 2 is a fun novelty, but this definitely isn't the best way to play CyberPunk. I encountered lots of frame drops."
However, CDPR Engineer Tim Green expressed satisfaction with the port's progress in an interview with Game File on April 25. "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result," Green explained.
