After months of speculation, DC has officially cast Tom Rhys Harries as the iconic Batman villain Clayface in the forthcoming DCU standalone film.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed the news by sharing a Deadline article on Bluesky. With the September 11, 2026 release date approaching, this update signals promising momentum for the developing project.

"Following an extensive global search, we're thrilled to welcome Tom Rhys Harries as Clayface in the DCU," Gunn announced. "Both Matt Reeves and I were completely captivated by his audition. We can't wait for audiences to experience James Watkins' direction and Mike Flanagan's screenplay."

This marks Harries' debut in comic book adaptations, though he's built an impressive resume with films like The Gentlemen and The Return, plus acclaimed shorts Yellowbird and Hireth. Television audiences may recognize him from White Lines and Suspicion.

The DCU's Clayface feature will be helmed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil) with a script by Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass). With producers Lynn Harris and The Batman's Matt Reeves onboard, horror enthusiasts have ample reason for excitement as production nears.

While plot specifics remain closely guarded, Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran hinted at creative directions earlier this year. The film will explore Clayface's origins as a "pure horror" experience blending psychological terror with body horror elements.
