Sonic Joins Magic: The Gathering Crossover

Magic: The Gathering continues its exciting crossover streak this year with an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration. Following collaborations with SpongeBob and Deadpool, three special Sonic-themed Secret Lair drops arrive next month, and we're thrilled to debut an exclusive preview of the artifact-focused Turbo Gear collection.

Unlike the extensive Final Fantasy crossover which included full draft sets and Commander decks, this Sonic collaboration follows Magic's traditional Secret Lair format with three distinct premium drops. The Turbo Gear collection features seven total cards - six existing Magic cards with completely new Sonic-inspired artwork and names, plus one exclusive token card.

Notably, the drop includes several Commander format staples like Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves, now transformed with Sonic's signature speedster aesthetic. The collection also features a special treat for vehicle enthusiasts: the legendary Weatherlight reimagined as Tornado, Sonic's biplane - now eligible as a Commander thanks to recent rules updates.

Wizards of the Coast designed Turbo Gear to synergize with another drop focused on Sonic's iconic characters. While we can't reveal specifics yet, the official description hints at exciting combos - like equipping Knuckles's Gloves (a reimagined Reaver Cleaver) onto Knuckles himself. This follows the successful template of previous crossovers like Tomb Raider, where reprinted cards complement new legendary creatures for ready-to-play Commander combinations.
