On April 27, YouTube user 2Chrispy shared a video titled “I Cracked the Ancient Monkey Texts of Donkey Kong Bananza,” explaining the decoding process for the “Ancient Monkey Texts.” This hidden script appeared in the game’s trailers, gameplay clips, and official site.

Creating a unique language for a game isn’t novel—Nintendo used a similar approach with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Hylian script. But decoding it before release is unprecedented.

In the video, 2Chrispy described decoding the “bananabet,” starting with the phrase “Chip Exchange.” When players collect a Banandium Chip, a message appears: “Trade these for bananas at any Chip Exchange.” By analyzing trailer frames, 2Chrispy pinpointed the “Chip Exchange” signage as a starting point.

He noticed the symbols aligned with the word “exchange,” with the repeated letter “e” supporting his theory. Using this method on other symbols from screenshots and trailers, he employed a word finder app to complete the puzzle.
