PlayStation enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief as Yoshinori Kitase, the producer, and Naoki Hamaguchi, the director, confirmed during their interview with 4Gamer on January 23, 2025, that FF7 Remake Part 3 will indeed be available on the PS5. Addressing concerns about the release trajectory of the series, Kitase reassured fans, saying, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)."

As the PS5 continues its journey through its lifecycle, speculation abounds about the potential release of the FF7 Remake trilogy on the upcoming PS6. However, details about the PS6 remain scarce at this point.

While Square Enix keeps the exact release date under wraps, the development of FF7 Remake Part 3 has been progressing smoothly. The project kicked off alongside Part 2, with full production intensifying post the February 2024 release of FF7 Rebirth. Leveraging reusable assets and a completed story draft, the game is on track for a timely release.

In an interview with Famitsu on January 23, 2025, Hamaguchi shared optimistic updates on the development. "It’s going very well," he stated. "We started working on the third game right after FFVII Rebirth ended, and we have a build that will confirm what we should aim for as a game by the end of 2024. We can already see the direction of where we will land, so we have been working towards that goal since the beginning of this year. We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it."

Kitase expressed his satisfaction with the story's conclusion, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."

FF7 Remake Part 3 Will Allegedly Be a Timed Exclusive Game

A report from the Washington Post on March 6, 2024, indicated that PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the FF7 Remake trilogy, limiting their initial release to PS consoles. Historically, FF7 Remake (2020) enjoyed a year of exclusivity on PS4 before its PC debut via Epic Games Store and Steam. FF7 Remake Intergrade, an enhanced version of the first game, was exclusive to PS5 for six months before its PC release. FF7 Rebirth followed a similar pattern, with its PC version launching on January 23, 2025, after its initial PS5 exclusivity in February 2024.

Following this trend, FF7 Remake Part 3 is expected to launch exclusively on PS5 for a specified period before becoming available on other platforms.

Square Enix Multi-Platform Strategy Amidst Declining Sales

Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix reported a decline in HD title sales in their financial results on March 31, 2024. Notable titles contributing to last year's sales included FF16, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and FF7 Rebirth.

The company highlighted "operating losses grew due to higher development cost amortization and advertising expenses, as well as higher content valuation losses versus the previous fiscal year." In response, Square Enix plans to "aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs," aiming to boost sales.

This shift in strategy suggests that more of Square Enix's HD titles might soon find their way to Xbox, Switch 2, and other platforms, despite the company's longstanding partnership with PlayStation.
