Square Enix has revealed it will discontinue Windows 10 support for its MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV this October.
The publisher confirmed in an official statement that support will officially end on October 14, 2025, aligning with Microsoft’s own cutoff date for security updates and technical assistance.
"You should still be able to play FINAL FANTASY XIV on Windows® 10 systems after support ends," the company noted. "However, once support is discontinued, we generally won’t be able to offer help for issues that stem from the operating system itself."
Square Enix mentioned it may address certain Windows 10–related support requests after the cutoff, but such responses will be limited, considered individually, and not assured.
In addition, the OS and CPU specifications for the Windows version of Final Fantasy XIV will also be revised on October 14. Alongside the move from Windows 10 64-bit to Windows 11 64-bit, the CPU requirements will be raised.
For the Minimum System Requirements, the suggested Intel Core i7-7700 (or better) will be replaced with an Intel Core i5-8400 (or better). The Recommended System Requirements will hold firm at the Intel Core i7-9700 baseline.
Currently, Final Fantasy XIV is preparing for its 7.3 update, titled The Promise of Tomorrow, set to launch in early August. Following the Dawntrail expansion, patch 7.3 will bring a fresh wave of Main Scenario Quests that explore the aftermath of the expansion and the mysterious events unfolding in Solution Nine.

Additionally, the next chapter of Final Fantasy XIV's Final Fantasy XI crossover raid series, Echoes of Vana'diel, will go live with San d'Oria: The Second Walk. Longtime Final Fantasy XI veterans—some of whom may still be playing today—are likely to uncover a number of clever easter eggs and references throughout the new raid series.
For Windows 10 users, the move away from the OS seems inevitable. If you're still on Windows 10, now may be the time to begin planning your transition as its support deadline approaches.
