The long-awaited Super Earth maps have arrived in Helldivers 2 as part of the Heart of Democracy major update, now available on PC and PlayStation 5. Following last week's leaks, the Illuminate invasion has reached our home planet, introducing new mission opportunities in Mega Cities where players can join forces with SEAF soldiers to fight back.
The new city biomes feature operations that contribute significantly to the liberation of these urban areas, directly impacting the ongoing Galactic War. Developer Arrowhead emphasizes that these efforts are crucial to the community-driven meta narrative they orchestrate behind the scenes.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the Helldivers are now tasked with repelling the Illuminate invasion by gaining control over areas where their fleet is landing. This new objective is likened to an intense game of intergalactic tug-of-war, where players will constantly battle to gain and lose control over territories.
Players can now activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as demonstrated in the update's trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops will assist in defending the cities. These small squads can operate independently or follow Helldivers, providing crucial temporary backup as players navigate toward their objectives. However, players must also be cautious of civilians still roaming the streets, as managing friendly fire remains a key aspect of Helldivers 2 gameplay.
The Heart of Democracy update is a testament to Arrowhead's long-term commitment to sustaining Helldivers 2 following its record-breaking launch last year. Addressing concerns about shifting focus to their next project, "Game 6," Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani reassured fans that Helldivers 2 remains their primary focus. "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now," he stated, indicating that only a small team will slowly work on a new project later this year.
Jorjani further emphasized the studio's dedication to Helldivers 2, stating, "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going." He credits the community's support for turning around the game's fortunes, ensuring a bright future for Helldivers 2.
