We spoke with Senior Model Designer Ann Healy about bringing this iconic Simpsons location to life – LEGO's first Simpsons set in nearly ten years. Below is our conversation, lightly edited for clarity.

Which other LEGO sets have you designed during your six years with the company?

Healy: I spent three years developing the LEGO Friends line before moving to dream projects like Disney's Hocus Pocus Sanderson Sisters' Cottage – a passion project that took years to perfect. Currently on the LEGO Icons team, I've designed last year's McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna racer and the Botanical Collection Poinsettia.

Why revive The Simpsons LEGO line after a decade-long hiatus?

Healy: Market research confirmed enduring global love for The Simpsons among LEGO fans. The Krusty Burger serves as both a nostalgic callback and an opportunity to introduce never-before-made minifigures. Ironically, the original Simpsons House and Kwik-E-Mart sets were among my final purchases before joining LEGO. Discovering an early Krusty Burger prototype in the office during my first week felt prophetic – seeing a passion project become reality five years later was magical.

Walk us through the design process. How many iterations did the final model undergo?

Healy: Starting with the legacy prototype, I refined layouts digitally before physical testing. Regular check-ins with our Creative Lead, IP partners, and Model Governance teams ensured authenticity and playability. The set underwent at least 20 complete rebuilds – culminating in a final quality check when production samples arrived.

Unlike the Simpsons' house or Kwik-E-Mart, Krusty Burger's design varies across episodes. Which references guided your vision?

Healy: Disney provided excellent reference materials, supplemented by my deep dive into episodes. "Coming to Homerica" (Season 20) featuring the Mother Nature Burger became primary inspiration, alongside "I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can" (Season 14) showcasing the Ribwich. Other key episodes include "Homie the Clown" (Season 6), "Day of the Jackanapes" (Season 12), and "Treehouse of Horror XX" (Season 21).

What's your favorite hidden detail?

Healy: The kitchen display screen shows an order for 700 burgers – a nod to Season 5's "Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood," where Krusty disastrously opens an offshore burger rig.

What proved most challenging during development?

Healy: Perfecting Krusty's massive facial proportions in the sign required multiple iterations with Disney's illustrators. Structural stability was another hurdle – we solved it using a prototype axle sleeve developed by our Elements Team.

Can fans expect more Simpsons LEGO sets?

Healy: While I can't confirm future products, as both a designer and superfan, I'm hopeful this set reignites enthusiasm for Springfield in brick form!
