NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, upgradeable multiple times, ensuring your favorites remain viable throughout the game. Weapon upgrades, however, require specific resources, including the often-needed Beast Hides. This guide details how to acquire and farm them efficiently.
Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar, found randomly in specific map areas. These animals, identifiable by their white icons on the mini-map (unlike machines' black icons), generally avoid players and nearby robots. Farming them isn't straightforward, as their spawn rate is lower than machines.
Moose and boar are exclusive to the ruined city and forest areas. An animal's reaction to your attack depends on the level difference; higher-level animals may flee or aggressively attack, potentially even reacting to close proximity. Their substantial health pools make early-game encounters challenging.
Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying hunts. Since wildlife doesn't respawn continuously during the main storyline, you must actively hunt them while exploring. Respawn mechanics for wildlife mirror those of machines:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance respawns enemies and wildlife in previously visited areas.
- Story progression can trigger respawns of nearby enemies and wildlife.
Efficient Beast Hide farming isn't easily achieved. Simply eliminate all encountered wildlife in the forest and city ruins; their drop rate is reasonably high, preventing the need for excessive stockpiling. Focus on upgrading weapons as needed, rather than hoarding materials.
