NieR: Automata - Where To Get Filler Metal

Quick Links

Acquiring upgrade materials in NieR: Automata presents varying degrees of difficulty. Many drop from defeated enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, are found randomly throughout the game world. This inherent randomness necessitates a degree of luck when farming these items.

Early in the game, Filler Metal requires exploration of specific overworld locations, specifically the Factory. Later, it becomes available for purchase, albeit at a significant cost.

Where To Find Filler Metal in NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is a rare item found in various locations within the Factory. Its spawn points are unpredictable, and the probability of finding it is lower than other items. Accessing the Factory: Hanger fast travel point, unlocked after a main story progression, provides an efficient starting point for searching.

Note that you may need to revisit and unlock the Factory: Hanger access point again, depending on your story progress.

While increased movement speed can slightly improve farming efficiency, reliably farming Filler Metal remains challenging. The most effective approach involves systematically exploring the Factory and collecting all naturally spawning items. However, purchasing it is a more reliable, albeit expensive, alternative.

Where To Purchase Filler Metal in NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is exclusively sold by the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. However, this option only unlocks after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining one of the final endings. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G each.

Despite the high cost, purchasing Filler Metal offers a far more consistent method than repeated Factory runs. Since Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for overcoming the game's late-game challenges (preventing enemies from reaching maximum level), this method may ultimately prove more efficient.
