The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO is set to include content that was originally cut from The Last of Us Part 2 video game, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann revealed that "pretty brutal" content will be brought back to life in the series, including some of the Lost Levels that were partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster of the game. These levels include three early versions of scrapped content: Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers. While Jackson Party and The Hunt are more serene, featuring Ellie at a party and tracking a bleeding boar, respectively, Seattle Sewers is filled with intense horror as Ellie navigates monster-filled tunnels beneath the city.

The inclusion of this cut content is expected to thrill and unsettle fans alike. Druckmann expressed his excitement, stating, "[It's] pretty brutal, but I'm very excited for people to see it." He also hinted at the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character who was only mentioned in the game, akin to the character Frank's appearance in Season 1.

Season 2 will introduce several new faces, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. Additionally, Catherine O'Hara has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, adding another layer of mystery to the upcoming season.

Fans won't have to wait long for answers, as the premiere of Season 2 is scheduled for April. However, some mysteries might persist longer since HBO plans to stretch The Last of Us Part 2 across multiple seasons, unlike Season 1 which adapted the entire first game. Co-showrunner Craig Mazin has noted that Part 2 has significantly more narrative to cover, and while Season 3 isn't officially greenlit yet, Season 2 has been structured to end at a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
