Konami's Silent Hill f Gets 18+ Rating in Japan

Author: Patrick Jan 10,2026

Silent Hill f is the first installment in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ rating from Japan's CERO board.

As shown in the Japanese reveal trailer released last night, Silent Hill f has been rated Mature in the United States, PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

While the game's certification could still change during ongoing development, Automaton notes that previous titles like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all received a CERO:C rating—suitable for ages 15 and up. Other entries developed outside Japan typically earned either CERO:C or CERO:D (17+).

Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake—Bloober Team’s reimagining of the 2001 classic—was rated CERO:C in Japan, despite earning a Mature (17+) rating in most Western markets.

Last night's Silent Hill Transmission—Konami’s dedicated online showcase—focused entirely on Silent Hill f, marking the franchise's first new mainline entry in 13 years.

Originally announced in 2022, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan and follows teenager Shimizu Hinako as she grapples with intense social and familial pressures. The story is penned by Ryukishi07, creator of the When They Cry visual novel series.

The trailer portrays Hinako in various states of distress—bloodied, wounded, and wearing a torn school uniform. Although most scenes were cinematic rather than gameplay, we got a closer look at the setting, monster designs, and a possible Otherworld overgrown with crimson flowers instead of the series' signature rust and decay.

There is still no confirmed release date for Silent Hill f, and no new details were shared about No Code’s Silent Hill: Townfall.
