Squad Busters 2.0 Launches on Android Before Anniversary

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary, and Supercell is launching its transformative 2.0 update on May 13th. Since its release in 2024, the game has struggled to achieve the widespread success its developers envisioned. Could version 2.0 be the turning point?

This Is More Than a Minor Update

Squad Busters 2.0 represents a fundamental reboot. Everything from core combat mechanics to victory conditions has been completely reimagined.

The most significant overhaul involves heroes. You now select a primary Hero to lead your squad into battle. If your chosen Hero is defeated, the match is over.

Combat itself has also been revolutionized. You no longer need to stand still to attack; movement and fighting are seamlessly integrated. This creates faster-paced, more aggressive, and chaotic encounters.

The path to victory has changed as well. Instead of eliminating every opponent, your sole objective is to defeat the enemy Hero. Some players have noted this shift makes the gameplay feel reminiscent of a Brawl Stars variant with added complexity.

Squad Busters 2.0 Removes Several Legacy Features

Familiar modes like Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder have been removed. Certain older skins and progression systems are also gone, with Supercell offering Hero Points and other items as compensation to players.

Supercell's rapid and extensive changes are a clear response to Squad Busters not reaching the iconic status of titles like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.

With this major overhaul and the first-anniversary celebration on May 29th, Supercell aims to revitalize the player base. A series of daily piñata events will begin soon, offering rewards including chances to unlock the new Hero, Mortis.
