Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate’s Fortune Is a Love Letter to Hondo Ohnaka

Star Wars Outlaws has just released its first story expansion, the A Pirate’s Fortune DLC, available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. This new content owes its existence to the charismatic Weequay pirate, Hondo Ohnaka, a beloved character from the Darth Maul comics and Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

Drew Rechner, Creative Director at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, explained to IGN that the team's passion for Hondo was the driving force behind the DLC. "We always knew because there were so many passionate people on the team that we needed to feature Hondo. And, you know, that scoundrel fantasy of Kay mixing with the pirate fantasy of Hondo, it just kind of makes sense, right?" Rechner stated.

The expansion introduces a fresh narrative arc where players join Kay as she navigates her path to leadership, potentially under the tutelage of Hondo. This storyline promises intriguing dynamics as Kay learns what it means to lead, with Hondo's role as a mentor—or perhaps something more ambiguous—adding depth to her journey.

A Pirate’s Fortune also enriches the gameplay with new elements. Players will encounter the Rokana Raiders crime gang and the Miyuki Trade League, which can provide upgrades for Kay's Trailblazer ship. Additionally, a new blaster capability called Shock has been added, enhancing combat options.

Looking ahead, Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. While Rechner remained tight-lipped about specific new features for this platform, he assured fans that more details would be forthcoming. "In terms of a specific feature set, that's something that we will get into later. So we'll have more stuff to talk about later," he teased. Potential enhancements could include utilizing the Switch 2's innovative controllers as a mouse and leveraging its new GameChat capability.

This expansion not only deepens the narrative experience of Star Wars Outlaws but also sets the stage for exciting developments across different gaming platforms.
