Speculation that Starfield will soon be confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, and although the Creation was subsequently removed, fans are buzzing with the possibility that Bethesda's sci-fi game, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, could be making its way to PS5 soon.

They have added the Playstation logo to a creation. (I think they are beta testers, the logo only appears on one creation)

The game has been relatively quiet in recent months following the lukewarm reception to the Shattered Space expansion. With Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, expected to host another summer showcase, this event could be the perfect platform to announce new developments for Starfield.

Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield this year, amidst growing player frustration over a lack of updates and communication. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield, confirming at least one more story expansion post-Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard expressed the studio's goal to release an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

IGN's review of Starfield gave it a 7/10, stating: “Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist.”

In January, Microsoft's gaming boss Phil Spencer hinted at the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from as early as March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for a PS5 release in spring 2025, following its debut on PC and Xbox Series X and S, Starfield's PS5 status remains unconfirmed, though Spencer's comments suggest it's a strong possibility.

Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including Rare's Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation consoles and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Additionally, Playground's Forza Horizon 5 is set to come to PS5 soon, and there are even rumors that Microsoft might bring Halo to PlayStation after decades of exclusivity.

Spencer has explained that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly about increasing revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially following the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In an interview from August last year, Spencer emphasized the need to meet high expectations within Microsoft: “We run a business,” he said. “It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do.

“So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us.”

Bethesda Game Studios, with its 450-person team, is currently juggling multiple projects including Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile games, and external development partnerships.
