"Switch 1 Players Can Upgrade to Switch 2 for Enhanced Hogwarts Legacy Experience"

Author: Jack Jul 15,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 iteration of Hogwarts Legacy is set to deliver a significant visual and functional upgrade, offering players enhanced graphics, quicker load times, and the added benefit of mouse controls.

As showcased in a brand-new comparison teaser trailer, one of the most noticeable improvements is the seamless transition between areas. Unlike the original version, where loading screens interrupted movement in and out of Hogsmeade, the Switch 2 edition allows for uninterrupted exploration—immersing players more deeply into the magical world.

But that’s not all. The upgraded hardware of the Nintendo Switch 2 also enables improved performance across the board, including smoother frame rates, sharper textures, refined shadow effects, and more vibrant color grading throughout Hogwarts and its vast surroundings. You can witness these enhancements firsthand in the official trailer below:

As for the inclusion of mouse controls, it's certainly an exciting addition—though details remain limited. While Warner Bros. has yet to elaborate on how exactly this new functionality will be implemented, fans are speculating potential uses, especially during spellcasting or precise magical interactions.

Similar to other titles receiving the Switch 2 enhancement treatment, existing owners of Hogwarts Legacy on the original Switch will have the option to upgrade to the enhanced version for a nominal fee of $10.

Set in the richly detailed 1800s Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy is a deeply immersive, open-world action RPG. As a fifth-year student, players will journey through both iconic and unexplored locations, discovering magical creatures, brewing potions, mastering spells, upgrading talents, and fully customizing their witch or wizard experience. The game launches simultaneously with the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.

Our team at IGN was thoroughly impressed with Hogwarts Legacy, awarding it a stellar 9/10 in our review. We noted: "In almost every way, Hogwarts Legacy is the Harry Potter RPG we’ve always wanted to play."
