Nintendo has revealed that the Switch 2 has shattered company records, becoming its fastest-selling hardware globally with more than 3.5 million units sold during its launch weekend.

The gaming giant announced this milestone on Twitter/X, stating: "#NintendoSwitch2 has surpassed 3.5 million worldwide sales in its first four days, making it Nintendo's most successful hardware launch ever."

#NintendoSwitch2 has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware ever globally.

This unprecedented achievement was partly enabled by Nintendo's strong initial inventory - a notable contrast to previous hardware shortages that plagued both Nintendo and competitor launches. The results validate Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser's assurance that sufficient Switch 2 stock would meet U.S. demand.

By comparison, the original Nintendo Switch moved 2.74 million units during its entire launch month.

The announcement follows recent reports from The Game Business declaring Switch 2 the fastest-selling Nintendo console in UK history, overtaking the Nintendo 3DS's previous record.

In our ongoing Switch 2 evaluation, we noted: "This successor system delivers precisely what we anticipated - a thoughtful refinement of Nintendo's outstanding console that updates outdated elements, enhances numerous design details through subtle yet meaningful improvements, and introduces an ambitious new control scheme that shows promise despite not yet achieving perfect execution."
