Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight's popular game, Split Fiction. The project is being helmed by Wicked director Jon M. Chu, with the screenplay penned by the talented duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen, the video game adaptation specialists who brought us the Sonic films, are now shopping this exciting talent package around Hollywood, sparking anticipation of a potential bidding war among studios.
While it's confirmed that Sweeney will be part of the film, the role she will take on—either Zoe or Mio—remains undecided. Split Fiction, which only launched in March, has already achieved significant success, selling over 2 million copies in its first week and securing its place as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review of the game awarded it a stellar 9/10, praising its dynamic co-op adventure and innovative gameplay.
Hazelight's success doesn't stop with Split Fiction. Their other hit, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a movie adaptation, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson potentially starring. The trend of successful video game adaptations is fueling Hollywood's enthusiasm for these projects, despite the inherent risks.
Story Kitchen's portfolio extends beyond Split Fiction. They are also working on adaptations of Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us film. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly awaiting more innovative experiences.
