V for Vendetta Is Reportedly Getting an HBO TV Series

V for Vendetta is reportedly getting an HBO series.

Variety reports today that Peter Jackson, known for his work on The Lord of the Rings, will write an adaptation of the comic series, with DC’s James Gunn and Peter Safran, Poison Pen’s Ben Stephenson, and Wall to Wall Media’s Leanne Klein serving as executive producers. No further details are currently available regarding casting or the extent of the comic’s story that will be adapted.

The series was originally published in the 1980s as part of the British comics anthology Warrior.

Created by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, V for Vendetta follows V, a revolutionary masked as Guy Fawkes, as he wages a relentless campaign to dismantle a fascist regime ruling a dystopian version of Britain. Along the way, he rescues Evey Hammond, a young woman who gradually embraces his ideals and ultimately takes up his mission.

The story gained wider recognition through a 2005 film adaptation.

Directed by the Wachowski siblings, who also co-produced the film, the movie presented a condensed version of the original graphic novel. Hugo Weaving starred as V, and Natalie Portman portrayed Evey. Just days ago, it was announced the film will return to theaters in 2026 to mark its 20th anniversary.

A television adaptation was previously considered as a potential sequel to Pennyworth.

That series explored Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler, in 1960s London. Although it was canceled after its third season, it never established a direct link to V for Vendetta. Still, many fans had hoped for a connection—especially since the show was well-received and left a strong impression.
