If you’re a fan of Shin Chan, the mischievous kid who’s been tickling our funny bones for decades, you’re in for a treat. The latest entry in the franchise, Shin Chan: Shiro & the Coal Town, has officially arrived on Android via the Crunchyroll Game Vault. Originally released in Japan for Nintendo Switch back in February 2024, it made its global debut on both Switch and PC in October of the same year. Now, it’s finally accessible on mobile devices.
A Heartwarming Anime Adventure with a Twist
The story begins when the Nohara family moves to a serene village in Akita Prefecture because Hiroshi lands a job close to home. They settle into a traditional Japanese farmhouse, embracing the tranquility of rural life. Shin Chan, along with his grandfather Ginnosuke, dives into the charm of country living—fishing in Akita’s rivers, bug hunting, and even helping grandma with farming.
But things take an unexpected turn when their loyal dog, Shiro, comes running home covered in soot. Naturally, Shin Chan follows him, leading to a mysterious train that materializes out of nowhere. A spontaneous ride later, he finds himself in Coal Town—a place stuck in time, reminiscent of the Showa era.
Step Into Coal Town’s Retro Vibes
Coal Town is a stark contrast to the serene countryside. Filled with bustling workers, retro architecture, and a lively atmosphere, it features a kid’s park, diner, shops, restaurants, and an apartment complex. While some elements are interactive, others serve as charming backdrops.
Here, you meet Yuri, a young inventor eager to improve the lives of the townsfolk. However, her plans hit a snag when her older brother, Chuck, arrives with his own ambitious ideas. His attempt at creating a ‘waste-free’ system ends up causing chaos. As a player, you step in to assist Yuri and restore harmony to Coal Town.
