BioWare Star Hurt by Fan Backlash

Dragon Age star Alix Wilton Regan has personally responded to the controversy surrounding last year's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, attributing the polarized reception to those who "actively wished for the game's failure" or wanted to see BioWare stumble.

Wilton Regan, who voices both the Female Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition and returns for The Veilguard, admitted feeling heartbroken that the game failed to connect with a wider audience despite generally favorable reviews from critics. During an interview with IGN discussing her celebrated video game roles – including her part in Microsoft's upcoming Perfect Dark reboot – she expressed deep affection for portraying BioWare's Inquisitor while acknowledging the character likely won't return.

Wilton Regan Defends BioWare's Vision

"It genuinely pains me to see BioWare face such divided reactions," Wilton Regan reflected on The Veilguard's reception. "From my perspective, they delivered exactly what makes a BioWare game special. I believe certain online detractors were determined to see this project fail regardless of its actual quality."

Upon release, The Veilguard became a target for review bombing, with criticism focusing heavily on inclusive elements like a non-binary companion character and transgender character creation options. The Steam community currently labels the game with "Mixed" reviews alongside user-generated tags like "LGBTQ+" and "politics."

"This premature judgment culture is absurd," Wilton Regan argued. "How anyone can definitively critique something they haven't experienced baffles me. It represents the worst kind of internet behavior we've unfortunately normalized."

Aftermath of The Veilguard's Launch

Publisher EA revealed in January that The Veilguard underperformed by approximately 50% against projections, coinciding with game director Corrine Busche's departure. Multiple BioWare team members subsequently faced layoffs.

The studio confirmed shortly after that no additional content would be developed for The Veilguard, marking an abrupt end to post-launch support.

"My hope remains that BioWare's brilliant creators find success in their next endeavors," Wilton Regan concluded. "Their talent guarantees we'll see more exceptional work from them. I'll always champion this remarkable team."

A streamlined BioWare has since shifted focus to Mass Effect 5, currently without a confirmed release window.
