Marking its 10th anniversary, The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is rolling out groundbreaking updates, as revealed during the ESO Direct 2025 event on April 10. The highlight? A long-awaited subclass system, finally addressing player requests after a decade.

For years, ESO players faced a major pain point: each new skill tree required creating fresh characters to access content. Now, Zenimax Online Studios is solving this with subclasses, letting players customize skill lines without rerolling. Simply reach Level 50 to unlock hybrid builds—keeping one core skill line while swapping two others across six available classes. This creates over 3,000 viable playstyles.

Game Director Rich Lambert confirmed rigorous testing balanced the system: "Power levels may shift, but we’re confident in this design’s health for ESO’s future."

The debut season, Seasons of the Worm Cult, continues ESO’s original Molag Bal narrative with the new Isle of Solstice zone. Players will confront the resurgent Worm Cult in this year-long saga, though future seasons will run 3-6 months. Developers teased revisiting past plots—including a Dark Brotherhood-themed season—through "Remix" updates.
