Eye-Controlled Driving Hits Early Access on Android with Open Drive

Open Drive, a revolutionary racing game designed for mobile devices, is now available in early access on Android. This game is a collaborative effort between SpecialEffect, a charity dedicated to helping physically disabled players access video games, and Sun & Moon Studios. Open Drive is not just a game; it's a testament to inclusivity and accessibility in gaming.

What’s the Game About?

Open Drive is crafted to be adaptable, allowing you to play using a variety of input methods, including touch, keyboard and mouse, switch access, or a controller. The game is designed to be inclusive right from its foundation, ensuring that players with different needs can enjoy it to the fullest.

One of the most groundbreaking features is its mobile-specific eye control, which allows players using eye gaze technology to steer the car simply by looking left or right. This feature is a massive step forward for accessibility, particularly for players with physical challenges who might find traditional touch or gamepad inputs limiting. Eye control is available across all four of the game’s open worlds: Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow.

The gameplay is incredibly flexible, offering various ways to enjoy the experience. You can casually drive around collecting orbs, chase high scores, and execute daring jumps with vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster. Moreover, you have the freedom to adjust the speed to your preference. Check out the early access announcement trailers for Open Drive below.

Open Drive Is Now Out in Early Access

Open Drive intelligently auto-detects the control method you're using and adjusts the gameplay accordingly. It fully supports Switch Access on Android, catering to a wide range of players.

Each input method in Open Drive comes with its own tailored setup. For touch controls, you can choose between 'Precise' and 'Classic' modes, which allow steering through tapping or directional control with a few taps. Similarly, customized setups are available for Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads or controllers.

Currently, Open Drive is available in early access on Android, though the eye control functionality is not yet fully implemented. The full version, set to launch later this summer, will be available to try for free. If you're intrigued, you can explore it now on the Google Play Store.
