Helldivers 2 has just rolled out a significant update, Patch 01.003.000, now available on both PC and PlayStation 5. This major update introduces a host of new features, including the addition of new Illuminate enemies, weapon customization and progression, and changes to the Superstore, enhancing the gameplay experience for all Helldivers.
Following intriguing teases from developer Arrowhead, the game now faces a full-scale invasion from the Illuminate alien faction. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, this update brings new adversaries like the Stingray, jetfighters that offer aerial support to the Illuminate, executing devastating strafing runs on Helldivers. Another new enemy is the Crescent Overseer, capable of laying down barrages even on Helldivers taking cover. Additionally, players will encounter the Fleshmob, described as a "failed" Illuminate experiment, a monstrous creation that Helldivers must work hard to destroy.
Attention, Helldivers: This is a Galactic Emergency.
The true Illuminate invasion has begun. In a sudden and completely unprovoked offensive manoeuvre, the full Illuminate fleet is emerging from the Meridia Singularity. Nothing is safe - not even the Heart of Democracy itself.

Arrowhead has hinted at sightings of even larger ships, though their capabilities remain a mystery, suggesting more surprises await players as they dive back into the game.
A groundbreaking feature in this update is the introduction of weapon customization and progression. For the first time, most primary weapons in Helldivers 2 can now be leveled up by completing missions, unlocking new attachments through Requisition. Players can also customize their weapons with new patterns, enhancing both their functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Whether it's tweaking sights for precision, changing color patterns, adjusting magazines for ammo capacity, muzzles to optimize weapon performance characteristics or adjusting under-barrel attachments for the handling you want, you're in command of how your weaponry performs on the battlefield. This level of individual attunement is sure to make your favorite primary best in its class.
Arrowhead has also released a variety of patterns for the FRV, themed around the Viper Commandos, Freedom's Flame, Chemical Agents, and Truth Enforcers Warbonds. These patterns will be available starting May 15, coinciding with the launch of the Masters of Ceremony Warbond.
The Superstore has also seen significant changes, ensuring that desired items are always available, eliminating the need for players to wait for items to rotate back into stock.
Beyond these new features, Patch 01.003.000 includes an extensive balance pass, adjusting elements such as spread, drag, sway, melee weapons stamina cost, shrapnel spawning, and fire damage, ensuring a more refined and balanced gameplay experience.
