Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the original Devil May Cry, has expressed a keen interest in crafting a remake of this iconic game. Dive into the details of how Kamiya envisions this project and the personal story that fueled the creation of the original game.
Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The trend of remaking classic games has captured the attention of legendary developers, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the charge. Now, the original Devil May Cry (DMC) could join this prestigious list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking it.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans, discussing remakes and sequels. When a fan inquired about his vision for a DMC remake, he responded enthusiastically, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the game evolved significantly from its initial concept, leading Capcom to birth the DMC series.
Reflecting on the game's origins nearly 25 years later, Kamiya shared a poignant personal story. In 2000, after a painful breakup, he channeled his emotions into creating DMC, a game that has since become a cornerstone of the action genre.
Kamiya admits he rarely revisits his past works, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he recognizes the game's age and its dated design elements. Should he embark on a remake, Kamiya is clear about his approach: he would build it from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While the idea of a DMC remake isn't at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya remains open to the possibility. He stated, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya has expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, sparking hope among fans for the revival of these cherished titles in the near future.
