Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Slays Sales Charts

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving the Demand for Remasters

Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has reportedly achieved significant sales success, exceeding 200,000 units sold. This achievement comes despite initial launch challenges, including technical issues and controversy surrounding censorship. The strong sales figures demonstrate a clear market appetite for the game.

Developed by Dragami Games (the original was by Grasshopper Manufacture, known for No More Heroes), Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a revitalized action-hack-and-slash title. The remaster features enhanced visuals and improved gameplay mechanics, offering a modern experience for fans of the original and newcomers alike. While the original developers didn't return for the remaster, Dragami Games successfully updated the game for current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC.

This sales milestone, announced via a tweet from Dragami Games, highlights the game's popularity several months after its September 2024 release.

Celebrating Success: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Triumph

The game casts players as Juliet Starling, a cheerleader who must utilize her chainsaw skills to combat a zombie horde that has overrun her school. The fast-paced, hack-and-slash gameplay draws comparisons to titles like Bayonetta.

The original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. Its popularity was partly fueled by the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (a renowned game designer) and James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed to the game's narrative.

While future plans for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remain unannounced (a sequel or additional content is yet to be confirmed), the game's sales success bodes well for the future of remasters of more specialized titles. This positive trend is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
