Marvel Rivals: New Heroes Every Month Starting Season 3
The developers of Marvel Rivals have unveiled an exciting roadmap for the future, promising to inject fresh content into the game with the introduction of new heroes each month starting from Season 3. This move aims to keep the game as dynamic and engaging as it was at launch. NetEase, the game's developer, shared these updates during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, where Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong outlined the new direction for the game.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In a significant shift from their initial plan of releasing two heroes per season, NetEase will now introduce a new hero each month. This change coincides with a decision to shorten the length of each season from three months to two, starting with Season 3. Guangguang explained, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
This ambitious schedule is driven by the developers' commitment to keeping the game exciting, fueled in part by community feedback and social media discussions. Guangguang added, "During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December." The team is also considering the addition of new game modes to enhance the experience, potentially leading to the introduction of up to 12 new heroes annually.
Balancing these frequent hero releases poses a challenge, but Guangguang highlighted the team's strategy in an interview with PC Gamer on March 14. He stressed the importance of using key metric data across all game modes, such as pick rates, win rates, stats, and abilities, to inform their balancing efforts.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, dubbed the Hellfire Gala, introduces a new hero, Emma Frost, an X-Men villain known for her telepathic powers and ability to transform objects into diamonds. She will serve as a Vanguard in the game. The Hellfire Gala takes place on the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa, inspired by Marvel’s Hellfire Club, a society of the wealthy and elite who influence global events.
The season's trailer showcased new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in formal attire fitting the gala's theme. Following Emma Frost, Season 2.5 will introduce Ultron, an iconic Marvel villain. The trailer hints at a dramatic interruption by Ultron robots aiming to initiate the Age of Ultron, though further details about Ultron's role remain undisclosed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Adding to the excitement, Marvel Rivals announced on Twitter (X) on April 4 the availability of new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. Thor's Lord of Asgard skin is inspired by his comic book revival by Odin, while Hawkeye's Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai. The Thor Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle comes with the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
These updates underscore NetEase’s dedication to supporting Marvel Rivals for the next decade and beyond. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates and more information on Marvel Rivals, be sure to check out our detailed articles.
