Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images are not official Nintendo materials, citing the company's absence from this year's CES. While this declaration seems self-evident, it's noteworthy for Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach to leaks.
The upcoming Switch successor has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with its reported entry into mass production. One prominent leak involved accessory manufacturer Genki, which displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this model quickly spread across social media.
In response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo officially labeled the Genki replica as "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby dismissing the showcased imagery as legitimate promotional material.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant visual difference from the original Switch is an additional button, resembling the Joy-Con's capture button, located below the home button and labeled "C." Its function remains unknown.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to shed light on the "C" button, offered additional insights. He suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will employ magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and function as mouse emulators – claims corroborated by other sources.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation is high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of around $399.
