"Scrubs Reboot Confirmed: Zach Braff Joins Cast"

In the world of television, few things are truly gone for good — and 2025 marks the return of yet another beloved 2000s classic. Following recent revivals from universes like The Office and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the cult-favorite medical comedy Scrubs is making a comeback.

It’s been 24 years since Zach Braff first stepped into the scrubs of J.D., the wide-eyed junior doctor navigating the chaotic halls of Sacred Heart Hospital. Now, Braff is set to reprise his iconic role in ABC’s upcoming Scrubs reboot — a revival that promises to blend nostalgia with fresh energy, featuring both original cast members and a new generation of medical hopefuls.

This isn’t the first time the network has attempted to revive the series. In 2009, Season 9 tried transitioning the spotlight to a younger ensemble, with Braff and other originals in reduced roles. The shift didn’t resonate with fans, and the season concluded after just nine episodes.

Now, nearly two decades later, ABC is giving it another shot — this time with original creator Bill Lawrence at the helm. The new iteration is being positioned as a reboot-revival hybrid, aiming to honor the spirit of the original while exploring a new chapter in the ever-evolving world of hospital life.

With Braff officially on board, Entertainment Weekly reports that negotiations for other returning cast members are expected to follow.

As Lawrence previously explained to Deadline, the key to making this work lies in balance: “The only real reason to do it is a combo — first, giving fans the chance to reconnect with the characters they love and see how they’ve evolved in today’s medical landscape. And second, staying true to what made the show work in the first place: following idealistic young people as they enter medicine, driven by passion and purpose.”

Scrubs originally ran for nine seasons, delivering 182 episodes of heartfelt humor and emotional depth between 2001 and 2010. While details about filming dates and the release window remain under wraps, anticipation is building for the next chapter of this modern classic.
