Stellar Blade developer Shift Up has celebrated a financially record-breaking year, with the game generating a remarkable $43 million in royalties. According to the 2024 financial report released by Shift Up and covered by Game World Observer, the company achieved a total revenue of $151.4 million, marking a significant 30.4% increase from the previous year. Stellar Blade alone contributed $43.2 million to this impressive figure.
The momentum shows no signs of waning, as Shift Up confidently anticipates that the upcoming PC version of Stellar Blade will outperform the original PlayStation 5 release, particularly in the Asian gaming market. Additionally, the studio is gearing up to unveil its new project, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. While this isn't the much-anticipated sequel to Stellar Blade, Shift Up has expressed interest in expanding the franchise further.
Project Witches was first announced in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's launch on the PS5, and before the demand for a sequel gained significant traction. Stellar Blade, an action-packed role-playing game, casts players as Eve, who fights against mysterious invaders to reclaim Earth. The game received a 7/10 rating from IGN, selling a million copies swiftly post-launch.
In our review, we noted, "Stellar Blade excels in the crucial aspects of an action game, but its appeal is hampered by uninspiring characters, a lackluster narrative, and some frustrating elements within its RPG mechanics, preventing it from reaching the pinnacle of its genre."
